Hatfield cage Lions

LONDON Lions boss Tony Gold accused his players of “going missing” after the Rowley Lane team slipped to sixth in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division.

Lions fell behind within two minutes when keeper Danny Berliner was lobbed from 18 yards. Berliner did not last much longer as a knee in the hip forced him off, leaving defender Jon Ellis to fill in between the sticks.

Hatfield doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time and clinched the points with a well-taken third 15 minutes from time. Striker Lee Cash came closest to a consolation for the Lions but his drive was kept out by a fine save from the home keeper.

Gold said: “Hatfield were hungrier, more determined and made fewer errors in dangerous areas that can hurt you.

“It did not help losing our keeper early on, but when you come to places like this you need 11 men that will stand up and be counted. Today, too many of my players went missing.”
