SEEK OUT t h o s e l o n g - n e g l e c t e d needles and unravel that ball of wool — knitting, and knitwear, i s the hot trend this winter. A l t h o u g h not just any k n i t w e a r will do — this season, it is oversized knits that are really in. On the catwalks, Giles Deacon wowed the crowds with gigantic scarves, Stella McCartney captivated the masses with giant stitch cardigans, and Sonia Rykiel fascinated the fashion pack with jumbo knit dresses. If one thing is for sure, bigger really is better.
There are, however, certain tricks to bear in mind when wearing these gargantuan get-ups if you want to avoid full Michelin Man status. Primarily, when going big on top, keep things lean at the bottom. Remember this at all times.
Chunky cardis and sizeable sweaters are great everyday basics and are surprisingly flattering if worn correctly. Cinching in at the waist will show off that silhouette, while balancing out the volume. For a more catwalk look, go XXL and wear these knits as dresses. It is all about playing with proportions here. Again, avoid full-on frumpiness by belting in at the middle. For the finishing touch, add cable knit tights and killer heels. Or transform that colossal cardi into a coat, just like the fashionistas. Wear it over your fave tunic or beloved denims.
As for scarves, make sure they are super-long and wrap them around you as many times as you can handle. You will never be cold again.
