Maccabi Masters are top of the cup shocks
THERE were shocks galore in the first round of the Peter Morrison Trophy Southern section. The Maccabi Masters rep team proved that age is no barrier after hammering third division Montana Boca United B 5-0 courtesy of strikes from Laurence Beck (2), Kevin Lotzhof (2) and Gary Goode.
Fourth division AC Cricklewood ended Scrabble’s unbeaten run after winning on penalties. Marc Wagman put the underdogs ahead direct from a corner. Scrabble hauled themselves level through the evergreen Ed Zneimer. With no goals in extra time Cricklewood held their nerve in the shootout with Elliot Chalmers, Richard Davis, Simon Barbarash and Simon Ritterband converting.
Hendon United C maintained their impressive run with a 3-0 success against Division Two strugglers Catford & Bromley Maccabi. Dov Birnbaum, Zvi Noe and Aryeh Goldring eased them through.
Fifth division South Mancunians B nailed Division Four leaders FC Team B 6-1. Richard Fogelman (3), Warren Schenk, Raphy Saul and Mark Newman were their marksmen.
Goals from Michael Pearson, Dominic Cheniart and Tony Gold booked holders London Maccabi Lions A a place in the next round after they beat Glenthorne United 3-0.
Jay Lawrence led the way with a four- goal salvo as Redbridge Jewish Care B smashed FC Heath 7-0. Daniel Shafron, supersub Craig Sinclair and an own goal completed the rout.
FC Team A got back to winning ways with Mitch Lassman (4), Jonny Breger (3), James Ryan (3), Jules Noti and Richard Sternberg engineering a 12-0 success over Pinner JFC.
Faithfold B needed extra time to see off a battling display from North London Raiders B. Jamie Taylor (2), Simon Wax, Elliott Cohen, Yoni Raeburn and Andy Bord netted for Faithfold. Nick Woolf (3) and Dan Warwick hit the target for Raiders.
Captain Lee Cash bagged a brace, including a late winner, as North West Neasden A beat North West Neasden B 2-1. Phil Goldstein replied.
Two goals from Alex Bloch plus one apiece from Shim Bensoor and Danny Cohen helped Hendon Hawks to a 4-2 win over FC Team C.
London Maccabi Lions B were made to sweat as they came from a goal down to beat Holy Mount Zion 21. Mike Stirton gave the Division Three side a shock lead but Andrew Myers and new signing Gideon Gold ensured there was no upset.
Four goals from Greg Corin eased Hendon United A to a 13-0 win over Life FC. Ben Kon, Josh Bentley, Ben Forman and Avidan Last bagged braces with Josh Lipman adding a brilliant solo effort with a run that started in his own half.
South Mancunians A also went goal crazy with a 9-0 demolition job against Chigwell Athletic C. Daniel Kent (4), Craig Cole (3), Elliot Stern and Shai Davidi did the damage. Gideon Lipman (2), Josh Caplin and an own goal helped Hendon United B account for Rapid Banta 4-1.
A stoppage time effort from Stefan Benfredj earned Red Sea a 4-3 victory over Zig Zag. The Seacats trailed three times but a hat-trick from Sacha Benfredj kept them in it. Nick Roman, Darren Conway and Zack Glassman netted for the Zeds.
Division One high-flyers Montana Boca United A bypassed L’Equipe 2-0 with goals from Gary Cohen and Trevor Henen.
Neil Marcus (2) and Kane Swerner were on the mark as Oakwood EDRS A beat Faithfold C 3-1. Dan O’Conner scored a consolation.
Division Two leaders Oakwood EDRS B held off Southgate Harmen B 4-3. Dan Abrams, Robert Bloch, Robert Davidson and Steven Berke put them through. They finished with 10 men after James Beale was sent off for two cautionable offences. Simon White grabbed a hat-trick for Harmen.
Brady Maccabi, Chigwell Athletic B and DynamoHendon progressed after respective opponents London Maccabi Lions Masters, London Maccabi Lions C and Kenton Maccabi defaulted.
