Braun’s a hit
RYAN Braun became baseball’s first Jewish Rookie of the Year.
The 24-year-old, who slugs from third base for Milwaukee Brewers, picked up the National League award, voted by the Baseball Writers of America.
Called up from the minor leagues in May, Braun hit 34 home runs and 97 runs batted-in while leading the league with a percentage of 634.
The son of an Israeli father and a Christian mother, the California native has spoken of his Jewish heritage despite not experiencing a traditional upbringing.
First baseman Kevin Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox was selected by his peers as a Gold Glove winner for his defensive excellence. Youkilis did not make an error this season.
