The brothel-owner, the ex-wife and one big row

The Jewish Chronicle - - NEWS - BY ALEX KASRIEL

A BITTER MARITAL row has been rekindled after a one-time model and air hostess promoted a book she wrote about her former husband’s brothels by advertising it on her Ford Focus.

Melvin Walker and Sharman Schiffer were together for 16 years and married for six, until splitting up three years ago.

Ms Schiffer, who now lives in Cockfosters, North London, took revenge on her ex by publishing a satirical book entitled Shmel the Rat: The Yiddisher Pimp, which related how he was put in jail for owning and running illegal massage parlours. Even her car has a licence plate which reads MY04RAT.

“He’s a real con merchant,” alleged Ms Schiffer, 55, who married Mr Walker at Redbridge Synagogue. “We never even lived together as man and wife. We argued more often than not because of his womanising ways. I caught him in bed with a 70-year-old woman that he was living with in a bedsit after I hired a private detective. I thought I could change him, but does a leopard ever change its spots? I wrote this book for all the women that he’s ruined.”

But Mr Walker — now a 70-year-old pensioner, living in Friern Barnet — insisted that Ms Schiffer knew about the reality of his business.

Hesaid:“Whenshemetme, sheknew exactly what she was getting. I don’t drink, smoke or gamble, but I like girls — and there was the occasional testing of the product. I thought this was dead and buried, but now she wants to drag this up. All she claims is that she is the innocent party. She went all round the world. She knew where the money was coming from.”

Ms Schiffer claims the book — which has been featured in various tabloid magazines after it was published in 2005 — has been such a success she hopes to make it into a film.

She has now removed the slogans from her car on the advice of her lawyers.
