Su­per Sela rises again

TEN­NIS DUDI Sela fin­ished the sea­son in style by win­ning the Yoko­hama Chal­lenger in Ja­pan to climb to a ca­reer high 63 in the ATP rank­ings.

He came from a set down to beat lo­cal hero Takao Suzuki 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 and claim his third tour­na­ment ti­tle this year.

Vic­tory brought his ca­reer win­nings to nearly $300,000.

The 22 year-old Is­raeli, who be­gan 2007 ranked 201 and only en­tered the top 100 last month, was also re­spon­si­ble for Is­rael reach­ing the World Group in the Davis Cup for the first time since 1994.

Sela was told last week that he will rep­re­sent Is­rael in next sum­mer’s Olympics pro­vided he re­mains in the top 75. He will take a win­ter break be­fore com­pet­ing in top ATP com­pe­ti­tions in Jan­uary in Aus­tralia and has an au­to­matic qual­i­fi­ca­tion for the Aus­tralian Open.

Is­rael’s Harel Levy and Amer­i­can Sam War­burg won the USTA Chal­lenger dou­bles ti­tle in Knoxville, Ten­nessee. This was the sec­ond suc­ces­sive ti­tle for the duo who last week won the JMS Chal­lenger in Cham­paign, Illi­nois.
