Super Sela rises again
TENNIS DUDI Sela finished the season in style by winning the Yokohama Challenger in Japan to climb to a career high 63 in the ATP rankings.
He came from a set down to beat local hero Takao Suzuki 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 and claim his third tournament title this year.
Victory brought his career winnings to nearly $300,000.
The 22 year-old Israeli, who began 2007 ranked 201 and only entered the top 100 last month, was also responsible for Israel reaching the World Group in the Davis Cup for the first time since 1994.
Sela was told last week that he will represent Israel in next summer’s Olympics provided he remains in the top 75. He will take a winter break before competing in top ATP competitions in January in Australia and has an automatic qualification for the Australian Open.
Israel’s Harel Levy and American Sam Warburg won the USTA Challenger doubles title in Knoxville, Tennessee. This was the second successive title for the duo who last week won the JMS Challenger in Champaign, Illinois.
