AFTER three defeats, Michael Sophocles’ Renaissance team-mates were on the winning side in episode five of hit BBC show TheApprentice. The task was to create and sell three new ice-cream flavours.

Throughout the series it has become clear that our “nice Jewish boy” doesn’t like getting his hands dirty, and once again, he was part of the sales team instead of working in the kitchen.

He dismissed some early suggestions from fellow team members: “I’m not sure I could see a family going to a cinema and letting their children purchase a ‘sex on the beach’ flavoured ice-cream.”

Having created the flavours, they were desperate to taste-test them. The onetime male escort failed to convince any of the ladies in a yoga class to sample, but had success with two men in a pub.

Despite the team’s lack of planning, and having arranged just two sales appointments, Renaissance grabbed a last-minute deal which gave them a win. Michael gave a victory hug to project manager Claire, noting that she had become “extremely receptive” to other opinions.

The JC’s expert Samuel Judah predicts that Michael will soon be tested: “I felt Renaissance should really have lost, but thanks to a bit of luck, they won it. Michael’s strategy seems to be not to question the project manager, which is working for now. But Sir Alan will test him soon.”
