BORN: March 24, 1947 FAM­ILY: The son of an East End tai­lor, he was the fourth and last child of a Jewish cou­ple and grew up on a coun­cil es­tate in Hack­ney, East Lon­don. He now di­vides his time be­tween his home in Chigwell, Es­sex, his man­sion in Boca Ra­ton, Florida, and his villa in Spain with his wife Ann. He has three chil­dren and seven grand­chil­dren CA­REER: Af­ter leav­ing school at 16, he started sell­ing car aeri­als and elec­tri­cal goods out of a van he had bought with his sav­ings of £100. He now has an es­ti­mated for­tune of £830m af­ter found­ing Am­strad (Alan Michael Sugar Trad­ing). He sold the com­pany for around £125m. Be­tween 1991 and 2001 he was chair­man of Tot­ten­ham Hot­spur FC but quit af­ter re­ceiv­ing death threats. He was knighted in 2002 for ser­vices to busi­ness.
