The Jewish Chronicle - - COMMENT&ANALYSIS -

Can we please put an end to the self-aggrandising claptrap published on the front page of the JC (May 9) and by Geoffrey Alderman ( JC, May 16) to the effect that we, the Jews, singlehandedly put paid to Ken Livingstone’s hopes of a third term as London’s mayor? The numbers just do not add up.

For every 14 Jews in the world, there are 8,000 non-Jews. In any political election anywhere on the planet, other than Israel, the effect of the Jewish vote is but a gnat bite compared to the non-Jewish vote. Livingstone lost the election because, at last, the majority of the electorate saw him for what he was: an ambitious, self-serving empire-builder, oblivious to the needs and wants of the community which he should have served, not ruled.
