The Jewish Chronicle - - COMMENT&ANALYSIS -

Howcan a man with such an immense intellect as Lord Winston seriously suggest that God entered into an argument with Moses or Job or whoever ( JC Essay, May 16)? There is not a scrap of evidence for this. And yet Lord Winston talks about the Jewish commitment to rationality. More to the point, why did God only enter into these chats 5,000 years ago and not today?

I can forgive the Chief Rabbi for going on about mythical covenants and our “finitude meeting God’s infinity” because that is what rabbis do, but Lord Winston is a scientist, for God’s sake! H W Lipson Purcells Avenue, Edgware, Middlesex
