MAL paid a fit­ting farewell trib­ute to its most dis­tin­guished crick­eter, Melvyn Corin, who af­ter more than four decades with the club, is mak­ing aliyah next week.

In a thrilling Twenty20 match in Finch­ley to mark his de­par­ture, the wick­et­keeper-bats­man skip­pered a vet­eran MAL XI to a last-ball win over a cur­rent MAL team.

Af­ter the game, MAL cap­tain Gavriel Lebens pre­sented his il­lus­tri­ous pre­de­ces­sor with a plaque cel­e­brat­ing his record in a ca­reer from 1967 to 2008.

His 16,421 runs in­cluded 16 cen­turies and 96 half-cen­turies, while he claimed 575 vic­tims with the keeper’s gloves and an­other 96 with the ball. Corin also skip­pered the Team GB Mac­cabiah squad to a bronze in the 1989 Games and was man­ager of the team in 1993. He also led MAL on four club tours to Is­rael.
