Com­mu­nal play­ers fly high in Hor­nets’ nest

FOOT­BALL MAC­CABI GB’s an­nual foot­ball event, Com­mu­nity Kick Off, took place at Vicarage Road, home to the Cham­pi­onship side Wat­ford.

In its sixth year, the event fea­tured a ju­nior com­pe­ti­tion when 24 teams of play­ers aged nine-15 bat­tled it out.

There were some no­table per­for­mances from the HMH teams, Lon­don Mac­cabi Li­ons, Brady Mac­cabi and Ken­ton Mac­cabi who clearly rel­ished the op­por­tu­nity to shine on the big stage.

The Un­der 13s and 15s tour­na­ment in­cluded strong per­for­mances with Pin­ner, HMH, Lon­don Mac­cabi Li­ons and Ken­ton Mac­cabi all im­press­ing.

The sec­ond part of the day fea­tured the Open tour­na­ment. Mac­cabi GB, Port Vale, B.F.G and Gold­crown FC con­tested the semi-fi­nals with Port Vale and Gold­crown mak­ing it to the fi­nal. Port Vale, lead by Euro­pean Mac­cabi Games star James Ger­sh­field, were the even­tual win­ners.

Jo Web­ber, MGB events co-or­di­na­tor, said: “The event was a huge suc­cess with more than 700 peo­ple en­gaged through­out the day. In ad­di­tion, there were a fur­ther 300 foot­ballers at the tri­als to rep­re­sent Team GB at next sum­mer’s Mac­cabiah Games, en­sur­ing that more than 1,000 Jewish peo­ple par­tic­i­pated in Mac­cabi GB events across the day from the ages of eight to 55.”
