They need your help
CHAI CANCER Care, Univer- sity Jewish Chaplaincy and Jewish Women’s Aid are the beneficiaries of the JC Charity Appeal, which we are encouraging readers to support. The charities were chosen by a panel including Esther Rantzen antzen and Maureen Lipman from reader nominations and each performs an essential service.
Jewish Women’s Aid offers a lifeline for women and their children who have suffered abuse, operating a refuge and a freephone helpline. Uni- versity Jewish Chaplaincy faces “a real challenge” to maintain its nine-chaplain network.
Chai helps cancer sufferers and their families and the demands it faces have been increased by the credit crunch. As the charity’s Vivienne Lewis points out: “Many people who had private health insurance can no longer afford it. Where once they would have had access elsewhere to some of the services Chai provides, they now are turning to us.”
