Lif­fchak leads bid

GB has named a 25-man rugby squad to com­pete at next sum­mer’s Mac­cabiah Games.

The squad con­tains 11 play­ers from the last event in­clud­ing full-time pro­fes­sional Aaron Lif­fchak of Lon­don Welsh who has ob­tained per­mis­sion from his club to com­pete.

The team will be man­aged by Jonathan Seltzer and Jon Tyler. They have re­tained the ser­vices of 2005 coach Richard Hodges, who was re­cently ap­pointed to the po­si­tion of Welsh Na­tional seven’s coach.

He will be as­sisted by the Hert­ford­shire County coach Nick Mor­timer.

Seltzer says that the squad is a “good mix­ture of youth and ex­pe­ri­ence”.

The team has high hopes of im­prov­ing on a fourth place fin­ish last time and hope to be­come the first GB side to take gold. The full 25-man squad com­prises: Ben Allin, Jonathan Brasse, Sam Cas­tle, Ben­jamin Cham­ber­lain, An­drew Cooke, Neal Fet­ter­man, Jonathan Fien­berg, Mike Fil­son, Si­mon Fil­son, Matthew Frankfurt, An­drew Gill­man, Haydn Hertz, Jonathan Ja­cobs, Sa­muel Katz, Ryan Kaye, Aaron Lif­fchak, Dean Miller, Jake Nor­man, Mark Pet­tit, Aaron Radley, Sa­muel Rhodes, Robert Seltzer, Nathan Tay­lor, Guy Tyler, Saul Zul­man.

The Un­der 16 fut­sal squad, co-man­aged by Sammy Carr and Rob Rich­man, has also been se­lected. They are: Adam Arnold, Rus­sell Gold­stein, Yoav Kesten­baum, Jamie Kut­ner, Sam Lewis, Daniel Lip­man, Jor­dan Marks, Oliver Mis­ner, Aaron Searle, Sam Sol­losi
