VETERAN FLORIST Brita Wolff is shutting up shop today after six decades. Mrs Wolff, 72, who runs Galton Flowers on Golders Green — the shop founded by her mother Hilde Galton in 1948 — has decided to call time on the site and will relocate to their branch in Brent Cross Shopping Centre. She tells People: “It is very sad but you can’t go on forever.

“Golders Green isn’t what it used to be. It has become a very interesting street but is not right for us anymore. I am really happy that we had those years but I think it’s been long enough.” Hilde Galton started the flower empire, believed to be the longest-running flower shop in Golders Green, after the family moved to London before the war in 1939. She previously ran a flower shop in Berlin, which was smashed on Kristallnacht.
