While I have every admiration for Dame Vivien Duffield and her unfailing generosity to causes in Israel and the UK, I have to express my disappointment that the rest of the UK seems not to exist.
It seem incongruous indeed to read, in the same edition ( JC, September 18) as that reporting the plans for a £50 million centre in London, an article ( Community) about the need for just tens of thousands of pounds for a centre for youngsters in south Manchester where there are many problems of Jewish children going astray. Parents have formed a committee to get this centre off the ground in order to create a club-house which will serve to educate and entertain the youngsters but these are troubled times financially. It will be sad if the philanthropy that seems to serve London cannot be extended to serve those in Manchester and other places. Leila Levine Langham Road Bowdon Cheshire
