AS IF Bernie Madoff didn’t cause enough havoc before his misdeeds were rumbled, now that he is behind bars a new scramble has ensued: duelling biographers. In the wake of occasional JC contributor Adam LeBor’s The Believers: How America Fell for Bernard Madoff’s $65 Billion Investment Scam, for Weidenfeld, comes Madoff: The Man Who Stole $65 Billion by Erin Arvedlund, billed by publishers Penguin as the person who penned “the first major critical investigation into Madoff” in 2001, archly adding: “The US financial regulators did not follow up her revelations”. Good to know that LeBor and Arvedlund at least agree on the amount of money involved.
