Fans disrupt Platini visit

The Jewish Chronicle - - Sport -

SIX men burst into a press conference in Tel Aviv held by Uefa president Michel Platini and swore at Israel FA chairman Avi Luzon. One of the men approached Platini and attempted to drape a Betar scarf around the Frenchman’s neck. The group, who were ejected, were protesting over alleged refereeing errors in their team’s 3-2 defeat at Hapoel Beer Sheva the previous day.

Mr Platini described their actions as a disgrace.

The incident was particularly embarrassing for the Israeli FA as Mr Platini was in the country to discuss arrangements ahead of the Uefa Congress next March, when heads of Europe’s 53 football associations, including FA chairman Lord Triesman, will gather in Tel Aviv.
