Richard Good­man con­firmed his sta­tus as the lead­ing Un­der 17 mid­dle dis­tance run­ner in the coun­try, re­mov­ing eight sec­onds from the course record in his re­lay leg for Shaftes­bury Bar­net in the Na­tional Young Ath­letes Road Re­lay Cham­pi­onships at Birm­ing­ham. He recorded a stun­ning 11:29 for the 3,861 me­tres course. In the same race, Has­monean’s Avi Fo­gel­man, 16, ran the an­chor leg in 14:45 for Shaftes­bury’s ‘B’ team.

John Bar­nett, a semi­fi­nal­ist at the 1997 Mac­cabiah Games, cap­tained the Hert­ford­shire 70’s team to victory at the Na­tional Fi­nals in Dud­ley. The match ended 2 rub­bers each, 4 sets each but Herts won by 36 games to 35 games. Also play­ing for Herts was Vic Is­rael, 75, who won the Over-55’s sin­gles Gold at the 1989 Mac­cabiah.
