War­den knocked over by van

A VAN driver has been ar­rested af­ter a fa­ther-of-10 was knocked over in Stoke New­ing­ton on Mon­day af­ter­noon, suf­fer­ing a se­ri­ous leg in­jury.

Aaron Weiser, 50 — the war­den of Sat­mar Synagogue in Clap­ton Com­mon — was struck on the pave­ment close to a bus stop on Up­per Clap­ton Road. The van also hit a fe­male pedes­trian, who was not se­ri­ously in­jured.

Two Hat­zola am­bu­lances at­tended the scene, along with po­lice and an am­bu­lance.

Mr Weiser was taken by paramedics to the Royal Lon­don Hos­pi­tal.

The 29-year-old mo­torist was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of dan­ger­ous driv­ing and was bailed un­til late Au­gust.

A po­lice spokesman said: “At this early stage, in­quiries con­tinue to es­tab­lish the full cir­cum­stances of the in­ci­dent. This is not be­ing treated as a racial in­ci­dent, just a road traf­fic col­li­sion.”
