The Jewish Chronicle - - Comment & Analysis -

Further to your story ( JC, August 5) reporting Fr Eddie Conway’s comments of 24 July concerning Irish Justice Minister Alan Shatter, it should be noted that the following apology was issued at Masses on the following Sunday July 31 by myself, as Prior of the Black Abbey:

“I was deeply saddened and ashamed by some references in the sermon you heard last Sunday, and the hurt I know it has caused to many of you. What was said does not represent my views or those of the Irish Dominican Province. As Prior of this Dominican community I apologise for the offence caused. I ask your pardon.” Fr Louis Hughes OP Dominican Community, Black Abbey, Kilkenny, Ireland
