PHYS-CAP, LEEDS

The 48-year-old is a sales manager for a luggage distributor. He volunteers as a fundraising officer for local children’s charity Phys-Cap which purchases specialist equipment for children with disabilities

Why Phys-Cap? I came into the group by chance. In 2000 I was requested to put my football refereeing skills to good use at the charity’s annual five-a-side football tournament. It was a success and I was touched by the amazing work the charity did to help the children.

What does your volunteering involve? Soon after the refereeing I was given the role of fundraising officer and I suggested extending fundraising activities. Together with colleague Andrew Reynolds we got PhysCap to be the official charity of the Leeds Half Marathon in 2006 and 2007 and later on the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride. These events raised £100,000 for Phys-Cap.
