It is regrettable that Norwood’s consultation process is limited to gathering views on how to ensure that Ravenswood “continues to be a pleasant place to live and work” ( JC August 12).

A genuine consultation would also seek the views of residents on whether they wish to continue living in an institution or whether they would like the opportunity of living in ordinary housing, supported living or small residential homes situated within the wider community.

After all, the disabilities of many of the people living in Ravenswood are no different to those of the Norwood service users who have been supported to work as a professional team at the Hatch End car valeting project. David Shinegold Spencers Wood, Reading
