Sidney White, who died on March 20, 2011, was one of the longest serving members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales,
Born in 1916, he qualified in 1938 and joined the army in 1940, intending to set up his practice after the war with two fellow accountants, whom he had met earlier. Sidney saw action in West Africa reaching the rank of lieutenant.The three accountants established their practice after the war, remaining in partnership together for many years. Sidney joined North West London Chartered Accountants, the District Society of Accountants in the Harrow area. He served as our honorary auditor for more than 25 years until his retirement, due to ill health, in May 2010. He remained in practice until the age of 94, and continued to volunteer his services to the profession, which was a remarkable achievement. He will be greatly missed.
Ralf Pinto, administrator of the Algarve Jewish Community, and vice president of the Faro Jewish Cemetery Heritage Site, has died. The community includes many expat Jews and holds regular dinners and events, which he co-ordinated for many years.
