Sid­ney White, who died on March 20, 2011, was one of the long­est serv­ing mem­bers of the In­sti­tute of Char­tered Ac­coun­tants in Eng­land and Wales,

Born in 1916, he qual­i­fied in 1938 and joined the army in 1940, in­tend­ing to set up his prac­tice af­ter the war with two fel­low ac­coun­tants, whom he had met ear­lier. Sid­ney saw ac­tion in West Africa reach­ing the rank of lieu­tenant.The three ac­coun­tants es­tab­lished their prac­tice af­ter the war, re­main­ing in part­ner­ship to­gether for many years. Sid­ney joined North West Lon­don Char­tered Ac­coun­tants, the Dis­trict So­ci­ety of Ac­coun­tants in the Har­row area. He served as our honorary au­di­tor for more than 25 years un­til his re­tire­ment, due to ill health, in May 2010. He re­mained in prac­tice un­til the age of 94, and con­tin­ued to vol­un­teer his ser­vices to the pro­fes­sion, which was a re­mark­able achieve­ment. He will be greatly missed.

Ralf Pinto, ad­min­is­tra­tor of the Al­garve Jewish Com­mu­nity, and vice pres­i­dent of the Faro Jewish Ceme­tery Her­itage Site, has died. The com­mu­nity in­cludes many ex­pat Jews and holds reg­u­lar din­ners and events, which he co-or­di­nated for many years.
