David Shinegold ( Letters, August 19) is right to suggest that all people with a learning disability should be given as much control over their lives as possible, including a choice over where they live and with whom.

Notwithstanding the current consultation regarding the Ravenswood site, Norwood already routinely offers those people who choose it — at Ravenswood and elsewhere within our services — the opportunity to move from our residential homes into supported living flats or houses within the community, where we continue to provide the assistance they need to live an independent and fulfilling life.
