Accusations fly over NY Israel parade

The Jewish Chronicle - - World News - BY JC REPORTER

A ZIONIST pressure group has launched a campaign to ban the New Israel Fund (NIF) and other human rights organisations from the annual Celebrate Israel parade due to take place on June 3 in New York.

Richard Allen, who founded JCC Watch to monitor the activities of the Jewish Community Centre in Manhattan, has formed the Pro-israel Parade Committee. He claimed that “extremist anti-israel organisations which support BDS” such as the NIF and B’tselem were trying to “hijack” the parade, and called for their exclusion.

B’tselem responded: “We do not support the BDS movement… It’s appalling that extreme right-wing elements are trying to impose a very specific nature on the Israel parade.”

The NIF website states: “The New Israel Fund does not fund global BDS activities. Nor do we support organisations that have global BDS programmes.”

The parade features 30,000 marchers from over 200 groups from across the political and religious spectrum. The parade organisers, the Jewish Community Relations Council, calls it “the world’s largest gathering in a non-partisan show of solidarity with the land and people of Israel”.
