THE SOUTHEND and Dis­trict Aid So­ci­ety at­tracted 100 peo­ple to its 22nd an­nual in­ter com­mit­tee quiz. Com­mit­tee chair­man Nor­man Zet­ter wel­comed par­tic­i­pants and the quiz mas­ters were Sy­bil and Ge­of­frey Green­stein. The event, held at Southend and West­cliff He­brew Con­gre­ga­tion, raised £1,900 for Jewish Care’s Ray­mond House.


A FAM­ILY tra­di­tion was main­tained at the AGM of when Rhona Tay­lor re­tired as a guild trustee and her daugh­ter, Sally Cass, be­came elected and who now be­comes the fourth gen­er­a­tion of the fam­ily to serve on the com­mit­tee. To thank Mrs Tay­lor for her many years of ser­vice she was pre­sented with a leaf, in­scribed with the guild’s grat­i­tude, which is to be placed on the shul’s sim­chah tree.

DID­COT Rosh Pi­nah pupils were awarded third place in the na­tional final of the Year 5 Sci­ence Quiz run by Quiz­club, at the Ruther­ford Ap­ple­ton Space Lab­o­ra­tory. The team from the Edg­ware school — who were ac­com­pa­nied by their teacher Emma Schock — had been com­pet­ing against 700 schools


Bournemouth He­brew Con­gre­ga­tion’s ladies guild LEEDS Is­raeli vi­o­lin­ist Lior Kaminet­sky — who gave a recital at the Mar­jorie and Arnold Ziff cen­tre as part of his UK tour — with pi­anist Jonathan Gold and gui­tarist Ja­son Feddy

MANCH­ESTER Emma Solomons, 7, whose fam­ily are mem­bers of Cardiff Re­form, came first in the un­der-8s North West Street Dance Cham­pi­onships
