WELL-KNOWN for its iconic pebbly beach, there are fears that Brighton’s coastline is just a stone’sthrow from becoming a sandy beach.

The Brighton Tourism Alliance blames the out-of-towners who often take a pebble or two with them as a souvenir of their trip.

So, they have spearheaded the ‘Bring a Pebble Back to Brighton’ initiative. Visitors are being urged to bring a pebble with them when they next visit – and leave it on the beach.

The major culprits are Londoners says spokesperson Claire Ottewell.

“We have no problem with the Welsh or the brummies.

“But it is the Londoners who always to want to take a little bit of Brighton away with them” she laments.

“Maybe it is because Brighton is known as London-by-the-sea.”

Let’s hope their plea doesn’t fall on stoney ground.
