A DE­SCEN­DANT of a World Jewish Re­lief founder has reprised a fa­mous movie im­age in the cause of boost­ing “box of­fice” for the char­ity’s an­nual Big Bagel cam­paign.

al­beit with a culi­nary ad­di­tion. Her great-great un­cle Lt-colonel Ju­lian Layton helped launch the Cen­tral Bri­tish Fund, which even­tu­ally be­came WJR. The CBF was in­stru­men­tal in sav­ing thou­sands of Jews from the Nazis.

Ms Layton said WJR had been im­por­tant in her life since child­hood. “Vis­it­ing the for­mer Soviet Union and meet­ing the peo­ple WJR helps first­hand made it clear to me how vi­tal their work re­ally is.”

WJR has been run­ning the Big Bagel since 2009, bring­ing to­gether thou­sands of peo­ple for bagelthemed events rais­ing money for, and aware­ness of, the char­ity’s global com­mit­ments. WJR hopes to gen­er­ate more than £100,000 from the 2012 pro­gramme.

This year, sup­port­ers are be­ing en­cour­aged to en­joy their bagels as part of a pam­per­ing ses­sion.

Kosher brand Ada­fina is sup­port­ing the project and will do­nate 25p to WJR for ev­ery bagel sold in its St John’s Wood store next month
