WE must be grateful to the Guardian for helping to lift Israelis out of a delusion they have labouring under for more than 60 years.

The paper published a correction this week, saying that a few days ago it had “wrongly referred” to Jerusalem as the “Israeli capital” in a photo caption about Yom Hashoah. According to the Guardian’s style guide, “Jerusalem is not the capital; Tel Aviv is.”

I’d better amend our office edition of the Times World Atlas (from 1998) which also lists Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
