Sparks fly at Tin­der over ‘sex ha­rass­ment’ mes­sages

DAT­ING APP Tin­der is be­ing sued for sex­ual ha­rass­ment and dis­crim­i­na­tion af­ter the com­pany’s for­mer mar­ket­ing head claimed that two ex­ec­u­tives — both of Ira­nian-Jewish de­scent — mis­treated her.

Whit­ney Wolfe claimed that chief mar­ket­ing of­fi­cer Justin Ma­teen started send­ing her abu­sive text mes­sages af­ter her ro­mance with him turned sour. She also al­leges that chief ex­ec­u­tive Sean Rad ig­nored her when she re­ported the prob­lem to him.

She claimed that Mr Ma­teen pub­licly called her a “des­per­ate loser” and told col­leagues she was an al­co­holic — and that she was called “dra­matic or emo­tional girl” by Mr Rad when she com­plained. Ms Wolfe re­signed in April.

Co-de­fen­dant In­terAc­tiveCorp [IAC], which owns a ma­jor­ity stake in the Los Angeles-based com­pany, told the BBC that Mr Ma­teen had been sus­pended and that they were in­ves­ti­gat­ing.

IAC added: “We con­demn these mes­sages, but be­lieve that Ms Wolfe’s al­le­ga­tions with re­spect to Tin­der and its man­age­ment are u n f o u n d - ed.”
