BRASS NECK AND BOLDNESS: A RECIPE FOR DISASTER
I am fed up with prominent Leftists ( Letters, June 27) who are clearly not marginalised (indeed, who have held very high diplomatic positions) claiming that it is “bold” to speak the “hard truth” in criticising Israel’s presence in the West Bank.
To see boldness, try speaking out in favour of settlements. People will simply stare in disbelief, and that’s just within the Jewish community. Carlton Close Edgware, Middx
If only because of their former positions in the Israeli political elite, the writers of the letter supporting Lawrence Brass will command respect from readers unaware of the fact that all of them have a political agenda to advance rather than an objective appraisal of the facts.
In particular, they make no attempt to rebut any of the points made by Mr Fassy of the South Hebron Hills Regional Council in his letter countering the charges made by Mr Brass (May 30). They are all committed to ending the “occupation” of Judea and Samaria, unilaterally if necessary. How Israel would then survive the inevitable onslaught by the Palestinian Authority/ Hamas/ Hizbollah/ ISIS etc. on its indefensible borders, is nowhere considered. To follow their advice in the present chaotic and murderous situation in Israel’s neighbours would almost certainly be a recipe for disaster. Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad.
