Is­raeli killed in plane at­tack

TRIB­UTES HAVE been paid to the Is­raeli man who was among 298 peo­ple killed in the at­tack on a Malaysian Air­lines jet last week.

IthamarAvnon­wa­son­the­flight­from Am­s­ter­dam to Kuala Lumpur when the plane was shot down in eastern Ukraine by Rus­sian sep­a­ratists. He was trav­el­ling to Aus­tralia, where he was study­ing for a busi­ness stud­ies de­gree.

His fa­ther, Dov Avnon, posted a mes­sage on Face­book thank­ing fam­ily and friends “for your words of con­do­lence”.

He wrote: “My son sur­vived the mil­i­tary ser­vice — but is the vic­tim of a plane that crashed.” He de­scribed Ithamar as a “spe­cial guy”.

Ithamar Avnon was born in Holland and em­i­grated to Is­rael in his early twen­ties. He served as a para­trooper, and was a veteran of the Gaza war of 2008-2009. His­death­was felt hard in the com­mu­nity of lone sol­diers —
