Israeli killed in plane attack
TRIBUTES HAVE been paid to the Israeli man who was among 298 people killed in the attack on a Malaysian Airlines jet last week.
IthamarAvnonwasontheflightfrom Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when the plane was shot down in eastern Ukraine by Russian separatists. He was travelling to Australia, where he was studying for a business studies degree.
His father, Dov Avnon, posted a message on Facebook thanking family and friends “for your words of condolence”.
He wrote: “My son survived the military service — but is the victim of a plane that crashed.” He described Ithamar as a “special guy”.
Ithamar Avnon was born in Holland and emigrated to Israel in his early twenties. He served as a paratrooper, and was a veteran of the Gaza war of 2008-2009. Hisdeathwas felt hard in the community of lone soldiers —
