Shoppers set to take off as the dollar plunges

The Jewish Chronicle - - LIFE -

BARGAIN-HUNTERS CAN save big time on shopping sprees in New York now that dollar has fallen to its lowest rate against sterling for over five years.

At a rate of $1.677, anyone changing £500 into dollars will now receive almost £64 more than in 2009.

The sterling surge means there are even bigger savings to be made in New York on designer stores.

The most sought after designer jeans and fashion items cost over 40 per cent less in New York than in London. Top designer bargains are on women’s 7 For All Mankind jeans and men’s Abercrombie & Fitch jeans.

At around £52, a pair of men’s skinny jeans now costs 47 per cent less than the £98 London price tag. Similarly, the women’s “best buy” jeans slash 44 per cent off the UK price — £103 in New York compared with £185 in London.

Top US labels J Crew and Polo Ralph Lauren also offer big discounts with prices 40 per cent or more below UK levels. Gadgets are also cheaper: a Kindle Fire HD tablet is a third cheaper . Source: Post Office Travel Money
