Akiva the inspiration for South
CRICKET Akiva Lieberman gave the Wilmslow attack a brutal battering as South Manchester’s Greater Manchester Cricket League promotion hopes gathered momentum with a 232-run victory.
Lieberman arrived at the crease with histeamteeteringon58-4andproduced a game-changing knock of 170, including 21 boundaries and seven sixes to steer South to 304-7 from 40 overs.
He was ably supported by Josh Oehley (34), with Loz Newman, Steven Allweis and David Cohen making useful contributions.
South pressed home their advantage early on with Oehley dismissing the dangerous Kazi for 23. Allweis teased the Wilmslow batsmen with his spin taking 3-26 and it was left to Dan Glicher 2-1 and Dan Paul to mop up the tail to complete oneof themostcomprehensivevictories in South’s history.
Grant Pakter was the star performer as Salford Blue Jays secured their third winof theGMACLseasonafterthrashing Foresters.
His fiery spell helpd SBJ skittle Foresters for a paltry 62, with Jonny Wineberg claiming 3-14.
Pakter finished unbeaten on 24 as SBJ cruised home in the 14th over.
Adam Jacobs was “pleased” with Belmont & Edgware’s all-round performance in the six-wicket defeat against Graces. Elliott Mayer (31) top-scored in a total of 130-6 on a testing pitch at Old Lyonians. Graces crawled to 42 without loss from 17 overs and although three quickfire wickets from Simon Braham gave BECC a lifeline, Graces held firm to seal victory in the 33rd over.
