One tiny bag, one big makeup decision
O YOU’RE all set to catch that flight to some sun-kissed isle in the Mediterranean… what’s in your makeup b a g ? I t makes sense to take only the necessities; it saves on weight and you can’t cram too much into those pesky plastic bags they hand out at the airport.
A good sunscreen is a must. Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Defense (£26) has an SPF of 45. It is quickly absorbed, a nd p r o v i d e s sun protection to combat the formation of a g e i ng dark spots on your face. At 30ml it will fit into the plastic security bags.
For the rest of your body, try Clinique’s Body Cream (£19.50). You should pack it in your main baggage as it is 150ml, but at SPF 30 it provides excellent protection. Water and sweat-resistant, it is suitable for sensitive skin.
Vitage’s Skin Defence (£22) is also SPF 30, and can be used on both face and body. This lightweight daily sun protector does not feel heavy and is ideal as a makeup base all year round (It is available from www.cosmestore. co.uk.)
Keep your skin in top condition with Chanel’s Le Jour, La Nuit, Le Weekend travel kit (£60). The combined action of the three lotions gives your skin a boost if it is stressed, dried out or in need of major pampering, so it’s good if you want to give your complexion a holiday treat.
Chanel’s excellent sun protection, UV Essentiel (£41) is available in SPF 20, 30 and 50 to suit all skin types.
Go for a glow even before your tan takes hold. Guerlain’s Terracotta Joli Teint Healthy Glow Foundation (£34.50) is ideal for warmer climates. It includes SPF 20 and is available in five shades. If you are looking for a
foundation with a higher protection factor, try Estée Lauder’s Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup (£29 and SPF 30). In eight shades, it gives long-lasting sheer coverage and will add a luminous look to your skin.
Clarins’ HydraQuench Tinted Moisturiser (£30) does several jobs at once — it gives lightweight coverage, protects with its SPF 15 and moisturises too.
When it comes to your eyes, save space by packing just one eyeshadow palette.
Estée Lauder’s Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (£40) suits all skin tones and contains eight shades to highlight and define, for either a soft or sensual look. Finish off with Essence’s I Love Extreme Volume mascara (£2.79) or Clarins’ Truly Waterproof Mascara (£21).
For lips, keep it subtle: try Essence’s Longlasting Lipstick, available in 13 different shades. Its creamy formula lasts for hours and at only £2.29, you can afford to treat yourself to more than one. Clinique’s fun, portable Chubby Sticks (£17) remain the ideal lip balms to take away on holiday. The four new Baby Tint sticks moisturise and provide a slick of natural colour too. Or go for Clarins’ Lip Balm Crayons (£17) in shades such as Tender Coral and Soft Coffee — pop one into your makeup
bag and you’re away!
