OBSTACLES TO the development of literacy skills and the strategies needed to overcome them were discussed at a coffee morning for parents of children with learning difficulties, held at Kisharon Day School. Run by headteacher Sora Kopfstein, it was geared towards helping parents to be part of the educational process while having realistic expectations of what can be achieved. Mrs Kopfstein said: “Literacy isn’t just about reading — it is about acquiring and using skills through our environment. For example, learning to recognise foods or products through the symbols on packaging or remembering signs at a shopping centre.”
