Gideon’s calling the shots
CRICKET MAL boosted their MSCL title hopes with a big win over London Maccabi Vale 2nds on a day when several club records fell.
MAL smashed 386, with Gideon Caller blasting 12 boundaries in his 82-ball 102. The MAL top-order made hay, with Warren Averbuch blasting 76 off 66 balls, Kevin Lotzoff 93 from 35 balls and Yoav Lebens clubbing 57 from 23 balls. MAL added 177 runs from their last 10 overs.
LMV were never in contention as MAL cruised to victory by more than 250 runs.
An excellent spell of spin bowling from Grant Reingold steered London Maccabi Vale 1st XI to the top of the Chess Valley League table with a seven-wicket success over Lohana in Division Five.
LMV restricted Lohana to 109, with Reingold (3-18) mesmering the visitors with his flight and guile. There were also wickets for Jonathan Gould, Andrew Greenwall Cohen, Joseph Greenwall Cohen and Adam Brand, while LMV captain Neil Lederman’s miserly four-over spell went for five runs.
Danny Caro (30) and Joseph Greenwall-Cohen (33) produced a matchwinning partnership to ease LMV home and it was left to Adam Brand and Adam Spooner to knock off the winning runs as LMV coasted home with 14 overs to spare. A superb all-round performance inspired South Manchester to a five-wicket success in the GMACL against Foresters. Steven Allweis ( 3-24 ) excelled with the ball, while Andrew Williams and Dan Paul helped restrict Foresters to 124.
Akiva Lieberman, Shaia Rabinovitz, Jody Marks, returning to the side for the first time in four years, and Josh Woolfstein helped knock off the runs.
