Pow­er­house Shachar gets back on track

POW­ER­LIFT­ING SHACHAR Head be­lieves she has turned the cor­ner af­ter claim­ing the women’s ti­tle at the South West mid-year com­pe­ti­tion in Ply­mouth.

Peer, who is based in Devon, ex­celled at the event, un­der the aus­pices of the Bri­tish Drug Free Pow­er­lift­ing As­so­cia- tion. Per­form­ing for the first time since re­cov­er­ing from glan­du­lar fever, she reg­is­tered a per­sonal best of 147.5kg in the squat and 82.5kg in the bench press.

She also hoisted a 162.5kg dead­lift be­fore back­ing out of a third lift to save her body for the rigours of the Four Na­tions in Au­gust where she has been se­lected to cap­tain the ladies in the Eng­land squad.

For Head these lifts also saw her claim a new Bri­tish record in the T3 18–19-yearold cat­e­gory.

Head said: “I can now look for­ward to the Four Na­tions with some real hope.”
