FOOTBALL The format for next season’s Peter Morrison Trophy has been changed to allow teams in the lower divisions a greater chance to progress to the latter stages.
The tournament, which was won by Hendon United Sports Club A last season, had seen teams from the north and south kept apart until the latter stages, but will now be open from the first round. The changes will also see 14 teams – 10 MGBSFL and four from the north - receive byes from the first round.
A spokesman for the competition said: “The reason behind this change is to make the competition more attractive and to ensure that more teams who are not at the top of the tree have a chance of progressing.”
The first round draw will be made at the MGBSFL pre-season council meeting on September 4, three days before the start of the season.
