Limmud’s early line-up
THE AUTHOR of a highly acclaimed book on Israel is one of the first speakers to be announced for the Limmud conference in December.
Haaretz columnist Ari Shavit’s The Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel, which came out in English earlier this year, is a personal history of the state.
Ben Crowne, programming co-chair for the conference, said: “Ari Shavit is one of the most thoughtful and challenging commentators on contemporary Israel. We’re delighted that he’s coming to Limmud this year as part of the wide range of perspectives and insights we aim to offer our participants”.
Also on the bill is Israel-born and Texas-raised comedian Avi Liberman, who has appeared on shows such as NBC’s Friday Night. He does stand-up comedy tours in Israel to raise money to help child victims of terror.
The education festival will unusually begin this year after the Christmas holidays, on December 28.
In the meantime, prospective campers are gearing up for this weekend’s Limmud in the Woods in Oxfordshire.
Acclaimed author and TV comic will be among speakers
