Mackay texts and apology attacked

The Jewish Chronicle - - NEWS - BY DANIEL EASTERMAN

FOOTBALL AGENT Phil Smith has condemned remarks made by former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay.

In a text message provided as part of a dossier of evidence to the Football Association, Mr Mackay is accused of writing: “Go on, fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew that sees money slipping through his fingers.”

The FA has confirmed that it is investigating the matter. Mr Mackay has said he is not antisemitic.

“The ‘Jew’ comment was completely unacceptable,” said Mr Smith. “When someone is called a Jew like that its very discriminatory at a time when, as Jews, we need to stand up for ourselves.”

Mr Smith also attacked the apology offered by the League Manager’s Association (LMA), describing text messages sent by Mr Mackay as “friendly banter”.

“I t was pathetic, almost more backward than the actual comments,” he said.
