Pro-Israel group set to challenge BBC over bias
A PRO-ISRAEL grassroots group is hosting a series of events that will call on the BBC to revise its “negative” media coverage of Israel ahead of the corporation’s charter renewal next month.
Campaign4Truth founder Sharon Klaff said her group decided to host the events in a bid to hold the publicly funded broadcaster to account.
She said: “I think the BBC is biased towards Israel, I think the BBC has reporters out there that are not wellbriefed or educated on the region’s background — and they need to be.
“Other news channels can be biased, but the BBC is a publicly funded body. We are the stakeholders in it and have no choice but to pay the licence fee.”
Campaign4Truth will host an inviteonly event for 70 politicians and journalists in Parliament on November 9.
The panel discussion, which will question the BBC’s Middle East coverage within the framework of Britain’s counter-extremism strategy, will be chaired by Golders Green and Finchley MP Mike Freer and feature Baroness Ruth Deech and Professor Richard Landes of Bar Ilan University.
On November 10, the group will host an event for up to 1,500 people in north London to question how the BBC’s coverage of Israel impacts attitudes towards British Jews. For event details and tickets, go to http:// bit.ly/1KVJbuY
