THE ENEMIES WITHIN CORBYN’S LABOUR PARTY
I read your letter ( JC, Oct 2) from a group of notorious, long-standing enemies of Israel with great dismay that the JC would allow such individuals as Miriam Margolyes and Moshe Machover a platform for their destructive views. However, on reflection it showed that you were prepared to publish items from the very same people who would deny that same freedom from the vast majority of Jews throughout the world.
Jeremy Corbyn has still not responded to the growing clamour for him to state either whether he supports the very existence of the State of Israel. Or not. His silence is thunderous. However, he is in good company with the writers of that letter, including a newish Facebook page that calls itself “Jews for Jeremy”, many of whose members appear to be old-style Stalinists who did not during their youth believe in such things as nation states.
All of these people want to help others to destroy Israel, silence it and to deny many Jews in this country of the freedom of expression to support a country we are justifiably proud of.
Thanks to the JC for reminding us that there is a very vocal, albeit tiny, number of people whose hatred for Israel and any real Jewish identity is finding ways to infect many important columns of opinion within the UK, including the press, universities, schools, culture, freedom of expression and now one of the great political parties of the last century.
Each of these aspects of democratic life have been the pride of Jewish citizens of this country. Mark Dines Northwood, Middlesex, HA6
After slamming the JC for a series of supposed inaccuracies, the writers of last week’s letter then go on to make the outrageous and unsupported claim that “thousands of Jews voted for Corbyn”.
I am puzzled how they arrived at this conclusion.
Did the Labour Party study the religious and ethnic origins of those who voted in the leadership contest and then sort out the Jews who were on board with Corbyn from those who were not?
If so this is quite a sinister development and needs to be taken further. However, I suspect this is just another howler and more hot air from those who will go to extraordinary lengths to discredit Israel and the majority of the Jews who support the embattled state.
