I re­fer to the com­ments by Pro­fes­sor Gabriel Brahm in last week’s JC (Oct 9). The premise of most speak­ers at this Ex­eter hatefest was that Is­rael has no right to ex­ist. More­over, the pro­gramme at Ex­eter —of which this hatefest formed part — is fi­nanced with £200,000 of public money.

Del­e­gat­ing two aca­demics to at­tend was the wrong re­sponse by the JLC. It sim­ply gave the hatefest a seal of ap­proval. The cor­rect re­sponse was to in­sist that this hatefest has no place at a univer­sity. This is not at­tack­ing “free
