Rus­sell’s go­ing for gold

FUT­SAL RUS­SELL Gold­stein is con­fi­dent Eng­land can qual­ify for the next round of the Fut­sal World Cup ahead of the trip to Is­rael.

Gold­stein, 21, will earn his third full Eng­land­cap­inthe­forth­com­ingfriendly again­stEs­to­ni­aas­theteam­com­plete­sits prepa­ra­tions ahead of the qual­i­fiers.

Eng­land have been drawn in a group along with Den­mark, Wales and Is­rael and Gold­stein de­scribes the hosts as the “main chal­lengers” in the roundrobin com­pe­ti­tion where the top team pro­gresses. Gold­stein said: “I’m qui­etly con­fi­dent we will go through. The fact that I’ll be play­ing against fel­low Jews in Is­rael rep­re­sent­ing my coun­try makes it even more spe­cial. It’s a great hon­our.

“It’s in­cred­i­ble to be­lieve I only started play­ing fut­sal a few years ago and I’d like to thanks Mac­cabi GB for in­tro­duc­ing me to the sport.”

Look­ing ahead to Is­rael, he said: “We’ll be­based­inTelA­vi­vandI’ve­told­myteam­mates about what an amaz­ing coun­try it is. I’m re­ally happy with my form for Helve­cia in the South­ern Fut­sal Su­per League and can­not wait to get go­ing.”
