HOW TO ENSURE IT’S ALL RIGHT ON THE NIGHT
COMEDIAN Mark Maier gives some tips:
Do it in English. Don’t throw in the odd Hebrew word like in a sermon or you’ll lose them.
Don’t be tempted to raise your voice if you see anyone nodding off — it’s not a congregation.
You may be seriously heckled. Don’t have a prepared response, try to be spontaneous.
Pray for a full house, or failing that, at least enough for a minyan.
And try this gag: “A lot of my congregation have left to become Quakers. In fact, some of my best Jews are Friends…” Mark Maier performs at JW3 on November 28
