Sports star’s Harrods theft

AN ISRAELI former basketball star has been jailed for two years for stealing £32,000 worth of designer handbags from Harrods.

Dov Herman, 46, and fellow thief Meital Pardo, 31, posed as a wealthy couple to grab a £2,800 Christian Dior bag, a £17,000 Prada bag and a £11,890 Yves Saint Laurent bag from the store.

They were caught in June when security staff spotted them walking out with a YSL handbag without paying.

A Prada clutch bag, stolen the previous day, was found in their room at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel.

During the trial at the Old Bailey, Herman, 46, of no fixed address, claimed to be a multimillionaire, saying he was so rich, he did not need to steal.

He also claimed he had played for Israel’s national basketball team and had made a fortune in construction. “I built the most beautiful buildings in Tel Aviv,” he said.
