Finch­ley United Syn­a­gogue runs a monthly Shab­bat lunch for mem­bers and vis­i­tors. One vol­un­teer who helps said: “This is a fan­tas­tic way to get peo­ple to­gether who may not have any­where to go… I can spend a Satur­day af­ter­noon serv­ing peo­ple lunch. I could never have 50 peo­ple in my home, but here I feel like I can be a good host.”

CAR­ING

One mem­ber of North Western Re­form Syn­a­gogue, whose hus­band was se­ri­ously ill, said the sup­port she had re­ceived from the com­mu­nity was “un­be­liev­able”. She added: “We were just sup­ported on a bub­ble of love. My hus­band was in hospi­tal for six months. I don’t think I cooked one meal. They or­gan­ised a rota, peo­ple came round and dropped off food ev­ery day.”
