Adath au­di­tions Cana­dian can­di­date

HEN­DON ADATH Yis­roel Syn­a­gogue’s long search for a new rabbi could be near­ing com­ple­tion af­ter mem­bers were told that a Cana­dian can­di­date would be com­ing to “au­di­tion” for the post later this month.

Montreal-bornRab­biShloimeYitz­chok Bix­enspan­ner, the founder of cen­tral Toronto con­gre­ga­tion Ka­hal Yereim, will meet Hen­don Adath mem­bers and give classes dur­ing his visit.

The shul, af­fil­i­ated to the Union of Ortho­dox He­brew Con­gre­ga­tions, has been look­ing to re­place its long-serv­ing leader of 50 years, Rabbi Pin­chas Roberts, who re­tired in Jan­uary.

Mar­ried with 10 chil­dren, Rabbi Bix­enspan­ner is de­scribed as an “ac­com­plished and pop­u­lar speaker” who serves on var­i­ous Batei Din.

While the se­lec­tion com­mit­tee and man­age­ment board said he ex­hib­ited many of the qual­i­ties the syn­a­gogue was look­ing for, his ap­point­ment will de­pend on a mem­bers’ vote.
